Cal South Soccer Nation Expo 2010

On Saturday, February 13th, I had the pleasure of attending the annual Soccer Nation Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the event, as I formerly was, this gathering is organized by Cal South and according to the website is “two amazing days of high-spirited soccer action, education, shopping, networking, and just plain fun.”

Big Weekend in Soccer

Tonight - Coaching academy players. We'll be working on finishing and attacking.

Tomorrow - Heading out to Soccer Nation Expo 2010 in LA. Pretty excited about the classroom and field sessions put on by Dave Sarachan, Bob Gansler, and more! Free stuff too!

Sunday - Besides Valentine's Day, I'll be playing against my former men's soccer team. Shouldn't be too challenging as this team is the worst in the league (hence why I no longer play for them). Pretty sore from last week's loss and training during the week, but this week will be a good chance to get forward from my left back spot and do some attacking!

Sack Lunch

Yes, it's been a long time coming, but finally I have a new post. Also, check out my brother's blog here where I will write from time to time...

A Quick Note About Bob Bradley...

Despite the criticism, I believe that Bob Bradley has done a great job:

a) in giving caps to previously uncapped players.

b) reaching out to Hispanic players.

c) preparing for big games through friendlies and camps.

More on this later...

Comparisons Between Basketball and Soccer: Part 1

Soccer is a flowing game that can be played end to end in just a short period of time. It is no wonder that basketball has drawn many comparisons to soccer. Both games feature possession, counterattacking play, and can be very physical despite strict rules to the contrary.

The Role of Flank Defenders in the Modern Game

The evolution of the game of soccer has taken a turn for the defensive in the last few decades. Gone are the days of four forwards and total football. With the exception of a few modern professional teams (see Barcelona, Manchester United), the majority of teams have forgone a flowing, creative attack, preferring to employ a highly organized and structured defensive formation. With this change in strategy has come a change in the role of the outside defender.
